Description
8-Hydroxyquinoline is white needle-like crystals. The melting point is 76°C and the boiling point is 266.6°C (100.3kPa). Easily soluble in ethanol, benzene, chloroform, acetone and dilute acid, but insoluble in water.
8-Hydroxyquinoline is an intermediate of halogenated quinoline anti-amebic drugs, including quiniodoform, chloroiodoquinoline, diiodoquinoline, etc. These drugs exert anti-amebic effects by inhibiting intestinal commensal bacteria, are effective against amoebic dysentery, and have no effect on amoebic protozoa outside the intestine. In recent years, it has been reported that this class of drugs can cause subacute spinal optic neuropathy. Therefore, the drug has been banned in Japan and the United States. Diiodoquinoline is less common than chlorioquinoline. 8-Hydroxyquinoline is also an intermediate of dyes and pesticides. Its sulfate and copper salts are excellent preservatives, disinfectants and antifungal agents. This product is a complexometric titration indicator for chemical analysis.
