Platinum dichloride is a gray-green or brown powder, which decomposes when heated to 581°C in a stream of chlorine. Insoluble in water, soluble in ammonia, soluble in hot hydrochloric acid to form chloroplatinic acid. Platinum dichloride reacts with alkali metal chloride to form a complex.
