Description
Platinum dioxide, also known as platinum oxide, is called Adams catalyst in organic synthesis. Chemical formula PtO2. The molecular weight is 227.03. Appearance is brown-black powder or black solid; melting point is 450℃, relative density is 10.2; it is insoluble in water, concentrated acid and aqua regia, and decomposes into oxygen and platinum when heated to 500℃ or higher. Can be reduced by hydrogen or carbon monoxide. When heated in sulfurous acid, it can be dissolved to generate platinum oxide (II). There are many hydrates, among which dihydrate and trihydrate are hardly soluble in sulfuric acid or nitric acid, but easily soluble in hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide solution; monohydrate is insoluble in hydrochloric acid or even aqua regia. Generally, it is prepared by melting chloroplatinic acid and sodium nitrate at about 500-550°C, dissolving the remaining nitrate with water, and filtering and separating to obtain PtO2 powder. The trihydrate is boiled by hexachloroplatinic acid and excess 2mol/L NaOH. After cooling, the excess alkali is neutralized to form a yellow precipitate of hexachloroplatinic acid. If the precipitate is heated for a long time, it can be obtained from brown to black. Platinum dioxide. The trihydrate is dried with sulfuric acid in a desiccator to obtain the dihydrate, and then the latter is heated to 100°C to form the monohydrate, and it is extremely difficult to dehydrate. Widely used as a catalyst for hydrogenation reactions in organic synthesis.
