Description
Platinum chloride and platinum tetrachloride are made by the reaction of metallic platinum with inorganic acid. The specifications are analytical and chemical purity. Platinum (IV) tetrachloride is hygroscopic red-brown crystal or brown crystal, with a density of 4.303 ( g/mL, 25/4℃), decomposed by heating, easily soluble in water, ethanol, hydrochloric acid and acetone, slightly soluble in acetic acid, ammonia and chloroform. Dissolved in hydrochloric acid can generate hexachloroplatinic acid. PtCl4·5H2O becomes yellow when it absorbs moisture in the air. PtCl4·5H2O is a red monoclinic crystal with a density of 2.43g/cm3. One molecule of crystal water is removed at 100°C. It is easily soluble in water and slightly soluble in ethanol and ether. It can also be directly chlorinated by platinum at 250°C.
